Owen Block was built in 1882 by Dr. Abraham Owen. It’s stunning French Second Empire style has been preserved while the interior offers modern living space. Owen Block is centrally located between Haynie’s Corner Arts District, Main Street, and the riverfront.

In 2015, Owen Block was nearly razed by the City of Evansville. It was in deep disrepair and attempts to secure an investor/developer had not been successful. But the people of Evansville realized what they would lose if this historic building was torn down. A grassroots social media campaign began. Working with Indiana Landmarks and the city, the group was able to raise enough money to make this project feasible. In March of 2015, Architectural Renovators set the equipment and began work to save this beautiful building.

Now Owen Block has 15 one bedroom apartments. High ceilings and large windows open the space and allow natural light to flood in. Custom kitchens are appointed with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. The baths feature glass shower doors and subway tile wainscoting. Laundry is conveniently located in each apartment. A workout room with treadmill and weight machines is steps away in the lower level. The courtyard at the rear of the building is a little urban getaway with reclaimed limestone benches, a large limestone harvest table and chairs, and a gas grill.
